Finally we are on summer vacation! I know we have travelled a lot this year, but none of the places we’ve visited were like a summer vacation to us. When I say summer vacation, I mean sun, sea, beach, and doing nothing but resting. The end of September is the best time of the year to do this in Turkey.
After Barış and I arrived in Istanbul, we joined my father and Aynur for a road trip to Antalya. The plan was to stay over my aunt’s place in Antalya, which is a country house in Geyikbayırı, on a hill, that has a great view of Antalya harbour. Then the next day we were going to take off for Çıralı, where we would spend a week.
We had a great dinner with my aunt, her husband and my cousin on the balcony with a wonderful view. There were a lot of things to talk about since we haven’t met up for years. The males of my family love to enjoy a few glasses of Turkish raki during dinner, so as time passed and more drinks were hand, the stories got funnier and we started singing late into the night. It was time to go to bed when we felt exhausted.
Although the cockerel in the back yard started crowing very early in the morning, this didn’t disturb me at all. On the contrary I slept better with the comfort of nature around. The next morning, my aunt was up early and prepared a huge breakfast table with food that was grown in their garden. Olives, jams, tomatoes, fruits… everything was homemade.
We needed to leave around noon to complete our journey and arrive at the family hotel we used to stay in every year. We said goodbye to them, knowing that we would come back next year at the latest as part of our Antalya holiday routine.
