We spent one week in Çıralı, as we do every year for our late summer vacation. The same hotel, the same dates, the same beach! I love this place and I don’t feel the need to be somewhere else to relax.
Yavuz Hotel is like a second home to us. In particular my father and Aynur have been spending a week here for almost ten years in a row. The last couple of years we joined in with their habit. It is a small hotel near the beach, which has a beautiful garden, and is run by a family who we became friends with. Their visitors are usually single travellers, foreigners, calm and kind people. Therefore, it is the perfect place to rest, read and enjoy the beach.
Every morning we started our day with a great breakfast in the garden. Then, it was coffee time in another corner of the garden while we were reading the newspapers. Around noon we packed a bag and went to the beach, where we continued to be lazy and move between sunbathing-reading and swimming.
We also made a trip to the ancient city Olympos (Lycia) which is next to Çıralı, on the same beach.
The view of the shore from the sea was remarkable. All the small buildings were hidden behind the trees, so all you see is high mountains and nature. There were some restaurants between our hotel and the beach, where we would grab some food during our all-day-long beach sessions. It was sometimes traditional Turkish food, and sometimes a glass of very cold Turkish beer and pommes frites. It was the perfect balance between feeling guilty for eating too much and being proud for swimming a lot.
I remember the first day of our vacation, when I made it to the beach and laid down on the sunbed. I thought that I was the happiest person in the universe and I had no expectation other than sun and sea.
In the evenings we were trying different restaurants and usually came back to our garden after dinner with a bottle of wine. Some nights we brought our bottle to the beach, where we could only hear the sound of the waves under the moonlight.
If you ask me, this is the perfect summer vacation: enjoying every moment of every single day, relaxing without thinking about the rest of the world, staying in the sea as much as you like and spending some real good time with your family.
I did a lot and I did nothing on this vacation. I touched sand, I sunbathed without protection, I walked on the shore in the moonlight, I saw centuries-old gravestones in the village, every night I slept with the smell of lemon trees, I improved my swimming skills, watched the fishes under the water, woke up early some days and swam while enjoying being alone in the sea, and drank milk every morning, I thought about silly things every day, I rested… I just felt so happy and peaceful!
