Santa Lucia and Lussekatter

It is Santa Lucia day today! According to the Scandinavian tradition, Saint Lucia is coming down to earth on this day with light and candies. As a celebration on the 13th of December, girls wear long white dresses on that day and they hold candles while they are singing Lucia songs. Lussekatter is a special pastry for this day. I bought a ready mix and baked it at home for the first time.

What makes Lussekatter so special is the saffron and the raisins. The typical shape is like an ‘S’. I tried some strange shapes as well :) I love saffron and the taste of lussekatter – I’ve been waiting for that day for the whole year!
