Probably the best thing we did in Bangkok was the canal tour on the river. We were using the ferries for transportation every day, but they were only going on the main river, Chao Phraya. We wanted to see the small canals between the regions where local people were living. It is said that Bangkok is very much like Venice, so we thought it must certainly be worth seeing the secret parts of the city.

Temples of Bangkok
In Thailand the complex of temples with gardens and special buildings like the bell room and prayer room are called ‘Wat’. Bangkok has 30.000 Wat complexes. A few of them are remarkable and worth visiting for tourists. The ones we have visited are Wat Phra Kaeo and Wat Pho ve Wat Arun.
Railay Beach
After Ko Samui, we flew to Krabi to spend a few days in Ao Nang. We preferred not to stay in Krabi, but Ao Nang instead, because we wanted to visit many other beaches and islands by boat, and it was more convenient from that location.
Big Buddha and Chaweng
One of the most remarkable places in Ko Samui is the temple Wat Phra Yai, where the Big Buddha is situated. The Buddha was made in 1972, is 12m tall, a golden color, and since it is sitting on a hill, it is visible from everywhere on the island. Wat Phra Yai is located on a very tiny island which is connected to the main island by a small bridge. Around the Buddha there are many bells hanging. It is a tradition to hit the bells one by one with the sticks there for good luck.

Snorkeling in Thailand
We spent one day in Ko Tao and Ko Nang Yuan for snorkeling. Pre-planned tours are not my favorite usually, but this time it looked more convenient than any plan we would try to make ourselves. [Read more]
